This is Bishop. Leave a message. Or not. I'm not your mom.

On the surface, Bishop comes off as a witty, kind, and friendly person with a simple child-like honesty to his words, though he can be a bit crass at times. The years spent living through the chaotic times of the Apocalypse hardened him and broke his soul on more than one occasion however, from these events he’s gained a strength of character that is hard to find in that day and age. He’s survived betrayal, trauma, heartache, and continues to smile while bearing the weight of his own sins. He’s come a long way to be able to face living life after those events, but that doesn’t mean he’s hasn’t been changed by them.

The death of his parents left a scar on his psyche that would never truly heal and left him with a lot of unresolved issues that he had to bottle up for a long time. The heaviest of these is how he didn’t get to apologize for the way that he is and how he never tried to understand them. This left him with a hole in his heart he can’t fill. In the beginning he ignored that void by fighting and fuelling his rage, which was both beneficial and harmful for Bishop.

The anger and hate Bishop harbored deep in his heart served to fortify his spirit and resolve, focusing solely on the extermination of all demons and became his reason for living. It gave him power that he never knew he had, focus, and determination he personally thought was out of character for him. However, this only related towards combat and things related to it, everything else fell to the side. The rage numbed him towards other aspects of life, such as happiness and love but kept his deep sorrow at bay.

Anger became his crutch to keep him moving as his sorrow grew and dragged him down. Bishop harbored a lot of emotions for his parents, particularly towards his mother, and the things he wasn’t able to say and the things he didn’t get to hear from them haunt him every day. Worst most especially were the words they exchanged the night they perished in the fire, since he said incredibly harsh things. The weight of his guilt and sorrow is enough to drive him mad though this was greatly exaggerated by Bishop himself because a part of his rage was directed at himself, thus creating a cycle of hate and sorrow. Years would pass before Bishop learned to look past that rage and set it aside, learning how to smile and love again. He’s also come to terms with his sorrow, though the wound hasn’t healed he’s no longer lets it drag him down.

He’s balanced out the pain of his life with the joys he’s experienced and the memories of those dear to him. He sees these memories as gifts which he doesn’t deserve but accept and to satisfy his own conflicting feelings about this, Bishop does whatever he can to please others and make them smile. Whether it’s behaving strangely, making jokes, serve them food or drinks, or just simply help them, Bishop will do it all to make them smile. He enjoys meeting new people and being in their company, and in a way he’s also mimicking his father’s actions who quietly tried to provide for him and his mother in an attempt to get closer to him.

While Bishop behaves this way he also doesn’t let people into his life, not out of malice but because he’s afraid, afraid of getting attached to someone, only for them to disappear and leave him. He’s lost too many important people in his life and doesn’t want to go through that pain again. Despite his disdain for being alone, he would rather have that than have to experience that anguish again. If someone were to probe deeper Bishop would often uses wit, sarcasm, blatant lies, and crass jokes to deflect others.

Another motivation for his action is because of the shame he carries with him. He’s a trained assassin who was emotionally unstable and was easily coerced into doing things he didn’t want to do; as such he’s done a lot of terrible things to innocent and good people. He’s not proud of these acts but he won’t deny them. He thinks of himself as a bad guy, and if anyone were to get too close to him he thinks he would hurt them in some fashion, which would result in them leaving him. But since he is a “bad guy” he believes that makes him more than capable of doing the things good people can’t. This is where he channels his pain and rage, where Bishop earns his little slice of peace, by killing those who would harm the innocent. Those who he judges are evil.

His view on good and evil is very black and white. If someone committed a crime then they must pay for it, however, the punishment must fit the crime. He recognizes how easy it is for him to kill and torture, as such, he makes sure that his target really deserves death. To those he finds evil, he is cold and sadistic and willing to use whatever method to achieve his goal. He doesn’t detest this side of him nor does he like it, he simply understands that this was the result of his immaturity and ignorance and that this is something he must live with.

Bishop’s life hasn’t been easy however, despite the ups and downs, the heartbreaking losses and soul crushing pain he’s felt, he’s survived and come out better for it. Imperfect but not lacking, he feels stronger and wiser than he’s ever been, confident that he can continue to live life the way he feels he should without regrets. While he certainly longs for a life away from conflict and violence, he knows where his place is and what he must do, even if that road led to his damnation.

Being who he is means he often finds himself in strange situations. Mostly dangerous, sometimes paranormal, and sometimes out right bizarre even by his standards. He had no intention of accepting this particular job because; one, the client stayed anonymous unless he accepted; two, they told him no details about what he needed to do; three, he would be paid AFTER the job and no advance payment. Suspicious doesn't bother him, he has that in spades, but the "no money up front" was a problem.

How dangerous was this, could he even fulfill it, would he even live to spend that money? It had bad decision written all over it. Then the client added two more zeroes to the figure and Bishop said yes. Because he's a little whore.

He was given instructions to meet them in the penthouse suite of one of those fancy hotel casinos. Give the name "Puck" to the front desk and they'll let him up, but the expression they gave him was curious. It wasn't fear, it wasn't the emotionless smile they give out of courtesy, it was a wide-eyed scandalized expression. Hell he even heard them murmuring to each other after he boarded the elevator. Strange.
